Ballet at Twilight 2018 @ Grand Boulevard's Grand Park
Jun 23 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

NFB will stage its annual free community performance, Ballet at Twilight, featuring a mixed repertoire of classic and modern works in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin’s Grand Park on Sat., June 23 at 7:30 pm. This popular outdoor production will feature an evening of both new and established works performed by NFB dancers and international guest artists.

NFB’s Ballet at Twilight will include excerpts from the romantic ballet Giselle that premiered at Grand Boulevard earlier this season. Louisville Ballet guest artists Natalia Ashikhmina and Darren McIntyre will dance the Grand Pas de Deux from Act 2 of this haunting production with music by Adolph Adam and original choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Ashikhmina and McIntyre will also perform a Pas de Deux from the new musical, BANJO. This exhilarating mash-up of contemporary dance features the music of COLDPLAY and spoken word of Banjo Paterson and explores the common themes in the works of both. Directed and written by Tim Maddren, choreographed by Stephanie Maddren and McIntyre with new and original musical arrangements by Mat Brooker, BANJO will take audiences on a truly unforgettable journey.

The program will also include the world premier of a new contemporary ballet A Tale of 9 Dancers, created by local choreographer Lindsey Kelley Brewer with music by Balam Acab, Brooklyn Rider, Bonobo, Lo Fang and M83. This new piece is inspired by the dancers’ life experiences, stories, opinions and beliefs.

Atlanta Ballet dancers Emily Carrico and Sergio Masero-Olarte, who will be performing with the NFB Company for the first time, will dance the Wedding Pas de Deux from Act 3 of the ballet Don Quixote with music by Ludwig Minkus and choreography by Marius Petipa. The couple will also grace the stage to perform the contemporary Pas de Deux Tintinnare also choreographed by Masero-Olarte with music by Arvo Part. Former NFB dancer Jonathan Carter will be performing the Cavalier’s variation from Act 2 of The Nutcracker, and guest artist Lindsey Kelley Brewer will dance in an original piece of her own making.

The production’s finale will be a ballet choreographed by NFB Artistic director/CEO Todd Eric Allen entitled Light Heavy. This high-energy ballet explores the similarities and extreme differences of classical ballet and modern dance in a fun and thought provoking way. Light Heavy features NFB principals Ellie Edwards, Jonathan Carter, Victoria Garofalo and Keegan Lloyd. Students from NFB’s summer workshop will also perform in two featured pieces choreographed by Lindsey Kelley Brewer.

Ballet at Twilight is presented as part of Grand Boulevard’s Coastal Culture series, made possible by the Grand Boulevard Arts & Entertainment Program. The production is sponsored by the St. Joe Community Foundation and funded in part by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. Visit NFB online at nfballet.org or on Facebook for more information.
